The Department of Cardiology is a Key Medical Discipline of Sichuan Province, Cardiovascular Disease Specialist Training Base of Sichuan Province, National Cardiovascular Disease Grassroots Physician Training Demonstration Base, Standardized Training Base for Resident Physicians, Chest Pain Center (national standard version), Atrial Fibrillation Center (national standard version), Heart Failure Center (national standard version), Cardiovascular Disease Quality Control Center of Nanchong City, Difficult and Critical Cardiovascular Disease Treatment Center and the largest cardiovascular disease intervention and treatment center in Northeast Sichuan. For two consecutive years, the department has entered the Top 100 scientific and technological value rankings of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. There are currently 31 doctors in the department. Ten of them hold M.D. and Ph.D. degrees, and 13 of them hold Master of Medicine degrees. There are two returned overseas Chinese scholars (studying in the United States or Canada). Four doctors are the academic and technical leaders or reserve candidates of the health system in Sichuan Province.
In recent years, we have undertaken more than 10 projects of the Science and Technology Department of Sichuan Province, Education Department of Sichuan Province, Health Commission of Sichuan Province, the National Natural Science Foundation of China. More than 300 articles in domestic or foreign journals, including more than 50 SCI-indexed articles and a book, have been published. We have won the First Prize of Sichuan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award twice, the Second Prize of Sichuan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award twice, Third Prize of Sichuan Provincial Medical Science and Technology Award, First Prize of the Nanchong City Science and Technology Progress Award, and the Second Prize of the Nanchong City Science and Technology Progress Award twice. We have also undertaken multiple national and provincial-level continuing medical education projects, as well as one international cooperative scientific research project. We have achieved good social benefits through the promotion of multiple achievements both inside and outside the province.
In the diagnosis and treatment of difficult and critical cardiovascular diseases, we have taken the lead in implementing more than 10 new interventional treatment technologies in Northeast Sichuan, with independent CCUs and cardiac intervention center, which is the largest and earliest center in Northeast Sichuan to carry out cardiac intervention diagnosis and treatment technology. There is a high-level team of returning scholars, professors, associate professors and colleagues with MD or MM degrees, with extensive experience in cardiac intervention therapy. At present, more than 4000 cardiac intervention procedures are completed every year. In the high difficulty technical fields of coronary artery chronic total occlusion, bifurcation, left main artery disease, intra-aortic balloon pump, as well as radiofrequency ablation of complex arrhythmias under three-dimensional mapping (Carto), defibrillation and pacing treatment of rapid arrhythmias (ICD), cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), etc., our professional skills have reached the advanced level in China. The cardiac intervention center is equipped with advanced instruments and equipment worth over 3 million CNY, as well as supporting equipment worth over 10 million CNY, including 64 conductive cardiac electrophysiology recorders, GE's digital subtraction angiography (worth over 7 million CNY), Philips cardiac specialized angiography machine (Allura Xper FD10), color ultrasound examination equipment (worth over 2 million CNY), myocardial nuclide imaging (ECT), intravascular ultrasound, rotablator, etc. We also have guided and promoted the development of cardiac intervention diagnosis and treatment technology in the region, and assisted multiple hospitals in building chest pain centers.
The research of our department focuses on the mechanism of atherosclerosis, the mechanism and prevention of coronary heart disease and vascular endothelial cell injury, the mechanism and prevention of ventricular remodeling and heart failure. We plan to successfully apply two departmental level and natural science foundation projects, complete one national or provincial continuing medical education project, and apply for two provincial and municipal science and technology progress awards each year.
